A recent survey by non-profit group Expert Labs of Federal Agencies that use twitter showed that agencies with fewer followers engage more than agencies with a larger following. This makes some sense, just in terms of available time, but raises some concerns about the effectiveness of social media use:
Andy Baio, the dashboard’s designer, told NextGov that plans for the index’s future include finding out how many positive and negative tweets the agencies are receiving and responding to, how active agencies are under Twitter lists and hashtags and how effectively the agencies are using social media.
He also said Twitter success is not just measured by numbers, due to agencies having very different goals and audiences.
